Even Theahhter Snobs Will Look on the Bright Side of Life

Spamalot at Metropolis Performing Arts CentreFor all the theater snobs out there, don’t dismiss local suburban theater as not being up to your downtown theater standards. Arlington Heights’ Metropolis Performing Arts Centre’s production of Monty Python’s Spamalot dispels any notion of “quite not good enough”.

Admittedly, there is a lot of dreadful theater in many local suburban venues. But, Spamalot outclasses even some of the productions I’ve seen downtown.

Spamalot was the winner of three Tony awards. I’ve seen Tony-award-winning productions, and for me, at least, that means zilch. I’m not a theater critic by any stretch, but, as the saying goes, “I know what I like.” And, judging by the reaction of the overflow audience at last weekend’s Spamalot performance, they knew what they liked, too.

One of the funniest moments during this production of Spamalot was the creative, customized “King-Arthur’s-search-for-knights-to-join-his-roundtable” video inserted into the production. The injured knight scene also was hysterical, so was the killer rabbit scene, so was the Frenchman’s insult scene, etc. etc..

If you enjoy laughing (a lot), clever dialogue, and an engaging cast, you MUST SEE Spamalot running through October 25.

Grab dinner before or after the show at one of the many, many restaurants in Downtown Arlington Heights. Look for your favorites!
